Child care in Devizes
2020 / 2021
We offer quality child care 52 weeks a year except for public and bank holidays. Our opening times can be viewed here. Our child care nurseries are in Roundway Hill, Devizes, and Hopton, Devizes. All offer day care (all year round), term time only child care options and holiday clubs 0 – 8 years. There are three things you need to think about when deciding what child care you need. 1. Do I want day care or term time child care only?Day care is all year round: term-time child care is for the school term only. Whichever one you choose, we can always be flexible if you need extra hours or days in addition to the core sessions. 2. What days and hours do I want?We offer a range of core sessions – morning, afternoon, full day, extended day or school day. You pay only for the sessions you want, and it’s entirely up to you to decide what’s best for you and your child. 3. Can I add extra child care hours to the core sessions? You can add extra child care hours as and when you need them.
Either contact the nursery direct, or contact us to talk through the alternatives, and to book extra hours. Freshly prepared meals every dayFreshly prepared meals and a balanced, nutritional diet are important for happy growing children. We have our own trained, experienced chef who provides a tasty and nutritious menu for both our nurseries. Fresh, tasty, balancedThe meals and snacks we provide throughout the day at our nurseries use fresh ingredients, locally sourced wherever possible. They’re nutritionally balanced, tasty, and provide lots of variety, which encourages the children to try new foods while supporting their health and well-being. We also cater for all allergies and intolerances, and offer vegetarian and Halal meat options. Working with experts to get it rightWe want to make sure that our freshly-prepared meals are just right for all our children so, as well as consulting regularly with our parents about our menus, we also liaise with two specialist organisations: the Children’s Food Trust, which provides dietary advice about cooking for children; and Menu Matters, experts in menu planning and recipe nutrition analysis. The Children’s Food Trust – previously known as the School Food Trust – issues guidelines for nursery food. These define how often, how much, and which types of, food and drink should be provided to nursery children, as well as those foods to limit or avoid. For example:
What our nutritional consultants say“The menu has the correct structure and some excellent recipes” “There is a superb selection of lunch recipes.” View our Sample MenuFor 3- and 4-year oldsGovernment funding for free child care for 3- and 4-year olds can be used at both our Sixpenny nurseries. All 3 and 4-year-olds in England are entitled to 15 hours of funded child care or early education each week for 38 weeks of the year (universal funding) or 30 hours, subject to eligibility extended child care. You can start claiming after your child turns 3. The date you can claim will depend on when their birthday is.
What am I entitled to?Each 3-year old child is entitled to 15 funded hours child care per week. During funded sessions, we include all nappies, wet wipes, and pullups, but we do make an additional charge for breakfast, lunch and tea and snacks where appropriate. There is also a charge on some sessions for additional services if your child attends a session where an additional service takes place for example french, sports, yoga, cooking, animal care and forest schooling. Additional services takes place usually between 9 – 3pm each day. How do I claim it?If your child is eligible for funding, we’ll give you the ‘Free Early Years Entitlement Declaration Form’ to complete with your child’s details, and the total number of hours spent at the nursery. We’ll then claim funding on your behalf from the local authority for the Free Early Years Entitlement. To discuss your options for using the funding for free child care with us, please come and speak to us, and have a look at our 'Nursery Education Funding Policy' that is located within our Policies section of our website. We know how busy life can be, so we’ve summarised some of the main policies below... Child ProtectionAt Sixpenny we work with the children, parents and the community to ensure the safety of children and to give them the very best start in life. As a nursery registered with Ofsted, we are required to follow the Child Protection Procedure agreed through the Area Child Protection Committee in Wiltshire. As a nursery involved in the care of your child we will try at all times to share with you any concerns we may have. However we do have a duty to refer to Social Services if we suspect that child abuse is taking place. Our first concern will always be the welfare of your child. We have a copy of the Child Protection in Wiltshire Procedure and Guidance for you to see if you wish. If an allegation of abuse is made against a member of staff or a volunteer you should immediately contact Kate Easter. If necessary this matter would in turn, then be dealt with by the local Social Services Department and Ofsted. Complaints ProcedureOur intention is to work in partnership with parents. Many concerns can be resolved quickly by an informal approach to the appropriate member of staff. If this does not achieve the desired result a full copy of our complaints procedure is displayed on our parents’ notice board and in our Policy and Procedure folder. Equal OpportunitiesSixpenny believes that their activities should be open to all children. We aim to ensure that all adults who wish to work at Sixpenny have an equal opportunity to do so. Sixpenny recognises and welcomes legislation and existing codes of practice for the promotion of equal opportunities. Procedure for Special NeedsChildren’s all round development is monitored through assessments and reports made by the staff. Concerns are raised by staff to the Special Educations Needs Co-coordinator (SENCO). With parents’ permission, the SENCO for Sixpenny will carry out a number of observations on the child. The findings from the observations are shared with the parents and room supervisor in order for a plan to be put into action.
